Why ‘Blue Knot’ Day?
Blue Knot Day is Blue Knot Foundation’s national awareness day celebrated in October every year. On this day, we ask all Australians to unite in support of the 5 million Australian adult survivors of childhood trauma and abuse. Blue Knot Day will be held on Monday 29 October, with events and activities happening throughout Blue Knot Week, from Monday 29 October until Sunday 4 November.
The tangled knot in the Blue Knot Day logo symbolises the complexity of childhood trauma, with blue representing the colour of the sky and a clear blue sky providing the space for new possibilities.
The 2018 Blue Knot Day theme ‘REAL LIVES. REAL CHANGE’ recognises the urgent need for support services for adult survivors of childhood trauma, and this Blue Knot Day you can show your support for change in 3 ways:
- Share the ‘REAL LIVES. REAL CHANGE.’ #unitebkd social media campaign
- Purchase a Blue Knot bracelet or pin
- Raise funds and awareness in your community

This year you can show your support for the 1 in 4 adult Australians living with childhood trauma by downloading the Blue Knot Day REAL LIVES. REAL CHANGE. campaign images and social media pack, and sharing on social media with the hashtag ‘#unitebkd’. The pack contains social media guidelines, facts and tips and 2 campaign images. One is for survivors. The other is for supporters; personal and professional. The images highlight the rights of survivors to live ‘a life free from shame and silence’ and our commitment to compassion for all adult survivors of childhood trauma.
